CDT student publishes chapter in Responsible AI in Africa

Congratulations to first year CDT student Favour Borokini who has published the academic chapter The Use of Gendered Chatbots in Nigeria: Critical Perspectives in the newly released book Responsible AI in Africa; Challenges and Opportunities (edited by Damian Eke, Dr. Kutoma Wakunuma and Simisola Akintoye).

“The chapter considers some of the challenges currently facing the Nigerian banking sector and urges a careful consideration by designers and technologists of the values and norms we embed into the design of chatbots.

I’m really thankful to the editors for the opportunity to write something on an issue I’m very passionate about – technology (AI) and gender equality!” –Favour

Favour’s current PhD research project in Creating Our Lives in Data will aim to offer an ethical framework to address the harms that are disproportionately experienced by vulnerable groups, particularly women, in immersive spaces.

Well done Favour!!
