It’s been a busy few weeks for 4th year Horizon CDT student Bogna Liziniewicz, moving from one event to the next, sharing her research and connecting with researchers working across data science and AI.
Following her attendance at ASEFInnoLab7 in August, Bogna headed to Naples for ECML PKDD 2026, the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases.
At the SoGood 2026 workshop, she presented findings from the first study of her PhD, exploring befriending schemes as wellbeing interventions for loneliness and social isolation among older adults in the UK.
Her research asks an important question: what helps these befriending relationships last?
She is now taking this work further through interviews with Befrienders and Befriendees, alongside a final study exploring how involvement in community-based loneliness interventions affects experiences of loneliness, and the potential roles of wellbeing, personality and demographic factors.
Bogna also presented a poster on another collaboration at the CAESAR workshop.
From understanding what makes befriending relationships work over time, to exploring how community-based interventions can influence loneliness, Bogna’s research is helping to shed light on how we can better support older adults experiencing loneliness and social isolation.
