Third and fourth year CDT students recently spent three productive days at Breadsall Priory in Derby for the Horizon CDT Spring Writing Retreat. Set against the backdrop of beautiful weather and the Priory’s extensive grounds and facilities, the retreat provided dedicated time away from day-to-day distractions to focus on research and writing.
Across the three days, students worked on a wide range of tasks including thesis chapters, papers, presentations, planning and data analysis, while also supporting one another through discussions. The relaxed environment encouraged both productivity and collaboration, with many students making significant progress on their projects.
Alongside the focused work sessions, students were able to enjoy the surroundings, making the most of the sunny weather and the excellent amenities on site. The retreat offered a valuable opportunity to reconnect, share ideas and maintain momentum as students move through the later stages of their PhDs. Students also reflected on how fortunate they are to have opportunities like this within the CDT, providing dedicated time and space to support both productivity and wellbeing.
