It was wonderful to welcome the Horizon CDT students, supervisors and alumni to the Horizon CDT annual retreat this year. For the first time in two years, the Horizon CDT retreat was held face to face at the Delta by Marriott Hotel Nottingham Belfry.
The three-day retreat kicked off with first-year students presenting their research proposals to CDT supervisors and the rest of the cohort, as well as receiving feedback on their PhD plans.
Second-year students organised and ran the Human Side of Data conference on the second day of the retreat. The one-day conference included panels, talks, tutorials and workshops from the Horizon CDT 2020 cohort, as well as a keynote speech from Colin Strong, Head of Behavioural Science at Ipsos.
On the third day of the retreat, third-year students delivered presentations focusing on the potential impact of their research projects.
The CDT retreat concluded with a panel session featuring CDT alumni sharing their experiences both during and after their PhD journey.
Everyone seemed to appreciate the opportunity to meet in person, bond over excellent meals and discuss innovative ideas. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
