We are thrilled to announce that Horizon CDT PhD candidate Szymon Olejarnik (2023 cohort) has published their first paper titled “The PMDWell Framework: A Confirmatory Factor Analysis of Video Game Players’ Wellbeing,” in Computers in Human Behavior Reports.
The study introduces the PMDWell framework, a new way to measure player wellbeing across four dimensions:
The research included 443 participants from around the world, and analyses showed that the framework reliably captures these aspects of wellbeing. The final questionnaire was refined from 77 items down to 54, making it the first multidimensional scale specifically designed for video game players.
This work fills a gap in existing research, which has often focused on single aspects of wellbeing, such as mental health. The PMDWell framework provides a more complete view of how video games can influence wellbeing, and the authors encourage other researchers to use it in future studies.
Congratulations to Szymon on this achievement!
