We’re proud to share that two of our students, Iris Jestin (2023) and Phuong Anh Nguyen (Violet) (2022), recently presented their research at Ergonomics & Human Factors 2025, the UK’s leading conference on human-centred design and performance. This year’s event was held at St George’s Park, the home of England football, and brought together experts from across healthcare, transport, design and engineering.

🔹 At the CIEHF Doctoral Consortium, Iris presented her ongoing work on perceptions around advanced vehicle technologies such as driver monitoring systems and related human-machine interfaces in conditionally automated vehicles. The valuable feedback she has received will help her continue to explore current understanding around these technologies, making comparisons across age groups, to specifically cater to the needs of older drivers.

🔹 Violet presented her research on how human-centred design (HCD) can improve transport policymaking, focusing on the use of transport user personas to understand citizens’ needs better. Through interviews with sixteen policymakers and analysts, she found that while HCD is a new concept for many, there is growing interest in its potential. She highlighted both the benefits and limitations of using personas, with opinions ranging from strong support to concerns about oversimplification.

Their work reflects the innovative, socially conscious research being carried out by our students and the real-world impact it can have.
