Congratulations to Judit Varga (2015 cohort) who submitted her thesis last week entitled ‘Geocaching: Tracing Geotagged Social media Research Using Mixed Methods’.
Judit is currently a researcher on the ERC-funded FluidKnowledge project at CWTS (Centre for Science and Technology Studies) at Leiden University in the Netherlands. The project explores (e)valuations of ‘ocean science’ by combining interviews, document analysis and scientometrics for three main reasons. It engages with calls to combine qualitative and quantitative research traditions in Science Studies, and aims to enrich our empirical and theoretical understanding of the impact of research (e)valuation on research practices (thus contributing to valuation studies and science studies literatures).
The FluidKnowledge project focuses on ocean science due to recent calls for ocean science to ‘solve’ grand societal challenges, in the context of the UN’s Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). Judit is focusing on combining quantitative and qualitative science studies methods.
